Best Wishes for the New Year

Before we begin our final celebration of this holiday season, I’d like to take some time to thank all of you… my faithful fans, friends and family. I've been blessed to have another successful year in business, and I'm looking forward to continuing on this adventure.

It's been an exciting year, and my business has seen tremendous growth. To celebrate my 1st official  year as a small business, I was able to launch my very own website, http://www.bowsbycece.com/ back in August 2011. And I have to say thanks to the expertise and support of my husband and a wonderful graphics artist, Leila Ellice Arias, http://www.leilaellicephotography.com/. Without the two of them, I'd still be floundering in HTML nonsense!

I was thrilled to introduce a variety of clothing and embroidered items to the Bows By CeCe line. It's still a work in progress, and I still have so much more to still learn. I truly love my work. But... there is more work to be done. My ideas are always evolving and expanding.

So what's new for 2012?? Definitely more designs and options will be added to my embroidered items. Embroidery digitizing has really fascinated me, and I'd love to learn more than the basics. I may be celebrating my second year with new "branding" and possibly a new website. Who knows? The possibilities are endless. I just know for certain that I could not do it without all of you.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Never turn your back on the BEAST

I get asked all the time about doing custom embroidery/applique work. I hate to say no, but sometimes I have to, especially when it comes to using the customer's personal items. Sometimes the fabric gets trapped under the embroidery hoop, and I have to cut the fabric out of the hoop...

Sometimes, I'm brave and walk away while the beast is working...

I have NO IDEA what got into her! She just let out a snarl, snarl, clank, THUD, and the next thing I know, I have snagged fabric and a broken needle! It's heartbreaking to say the least, the very least.

And that's also why it's a little more pricey. I HAVE to stand by and babysit the beast. It's not just the shirt you're paying for, it's also my time. Some designs can take as little as 15-20 minutes, but the majority of my designs and appliques take anywhere from 45 minutes up to an hour and a half! She does some CUTE work, but it's very time intensive.

Now you've seen what happens when I turn my back on the beast!

It was bound to happen...

I have these boxes, which reminds me of a song...

I love that song. But back to my boxes. I have these boxes of jewels and jems and resins and googlie eyed frogs and fun bits for my bows. I have 4 of these boxes and for almost 5 years, I haven't knocked one over yet... UNTIL TONIGHT!!

I was so close to sweep it up and chuck it all!! It was a headache to sort it all, but everything is back in its little box.

There's ribbons, and then...there's ribbons.

A funny thing happened on the way to the computer...

I sat for a second to check on Facebook and email, and the husband asks, "hey, toss me those ribbons next to your left elbow on the desk. I look down and see 2 ribbons, one pink, one grey. So I toss them over. Burst of laughter. Wrong ribbons. He meant his rack of ribbons for his Class A's (dress uniform). Oops. So there's ribbons, and then there's ribbons...

"I'm aDORKable"

When I decided to actually "blog", I asked a friend of mine, "what do I blog about?" Her reply... "blog about what inspires you." So that's what I've been doing. The exciting things. The frustrating things (work related, not kid related). I could whine on and on about the frustrating things, because there's always something to {wine} about!

So here's my lastest excitement... EMBROIDERY!! I'm having so much fun with my machine. If I had known how easy it was, I would have started when I bought it 8 months ago! The BEAST and I still have our battles to work out, but I hope she starts seeing things my way. I'm so in love that I'm even considering a name change to include expansion. (Probably not, but you never know!) I've got a pretty awesome stock of ribbon, but now it's time to stock shirts, onesies, thread, etc. Take a look at these two cuties that came off the machine yesterday...

Yes, I'm a DORK. Yes, embroidery excites me.

Laboring on Labor Day

My 7 year old said it best... "I thought Labor Day was the day you celebrate the work you do by not working." Just wait until you're a mom. Moms don't get days off. So I took the day off from bowmaking and did housework instead. Not a fun day...

Today's priority?? My workroom. It was a mess.

Here's the Before...

And some After!!

And now... I can THINK again! I should have showed you the carpets. I shampooed those too. It was pretty impressive. I hope you all had a great Labor Day Weekend!

Ready for a New Day!

Ever have one of those days that you wish would just end?? That's been my day. I had an awesome start last night on some new really cute Halloween t-shirts...

So this morning, I was eager to do more until...

That is not a happy bobbin. After the 10th time this happened, I decided it was time for some screwdrivers, canned air, tweezers and pliers. I wasn't messing around! Can you believe the size of the dust bunny I pulled out of this thing??

I thought for sure that would fix it, but no luck. Tonight my husband sat down and gutted it. She decided to cooperate for him. I'm excited about my new Halloween items, so tomorrow I'll get back to work now that she's fixed. Let's pray for no more wonky bobbins!
